Symphony in the Park!

Join us for this annual tradition! Symphony in the Park boasts great views, wonderful music, and a chance to get out with the ohana.  It’s also  FREE! The concert will be held  in Kailua District Park on Friday, May 12 and conducted by Ken Lam.

This family-friendly program will feature some of the music that will be a featured in the Halekulani Masterworks, Romeo & Juliet Concert, plus a few surprises!

Symphony in the Park is presented by Alexander & Baldwin. Additional support provided by the City & County of Honolulu Grant-in-Aid,  Atherton Family Foundation, Arthur & Mae Orvis Family Foundation, Central Pacific Bank Foundation, and Neiman Marcus Foundation. 

Tickets & Program

This is a free event! No tickets required.

Selections from Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet Suite, Sibelius’ Finlandia, Brahms Hungarian Dances, no.5 & no.6, as well as some additional surprises. Hawaiian Landscape, arranged by Elmer Bernstein and Randy Fong is a gorgeous piece of work that was specifically arranged for the Honolulu Symphony – we’ll be presenting this too! Passion, love and sweetness is generously sowed into this program!

We would also like to give a special thanks to Hawai‘i Symphony Associates member, Louise Emery, who will be taking the podium in her conducting debut for The Marriage of Figaro Overture. Louise captured this opportunity at the HSO’s 2016-2017 Gala and has been preparing for this event. Give her a warm welcome at the Concert.

We will also have a limited number of student tickets on hand. Any student, with valid student ID will be able to purchase tickets to the Season Finale, Otomo & Watts on June 10.

You may also enter to win tickets to the Season Finale (June 10) concert and winners will be drawn at the event!

What should I bring? 

  • Lawn chairs or a blanket
  • Picnic dinner or snacks
  • Non-alcoholic beverages (please note alcohol is NOT permitted in the park)
  • The whole family!

Please note that dogs are not allowed in the park. Thank you for your cooperation!

We’ll be performing in the pavilion in Kailua District Park (see where the orange arrow is pointing in the map below).

Ken Lam, Conductor

Ken is Music Director of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in South Carolina, USA and Resident Conductor of the Brevard Music Center in North Carolina. He is also Artistic Director of Hong Kong Voices and Conductor Laureate of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras.

In 2011 Ken won the Memphis Symphony Orchestra International Conducting Competition and was a featured conductor in the League of American Orchestra’s 2009 Bruno Walter National Conductors Preview with the Nashville Symphony. He made his US professional debut with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in June 2008 as one of four conductors selected by Leonard Slatkin. In recent seasons he led performances with the symphony orchestras of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Pops, Baltimore, Detroit, Memphis, Illinois and Meridian, as well as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Guiyang Symphony and the Taipei Symphony Orchestra.
