An “authoritative, soulful” performer (Your Observer News), Canadian oboist Michelle Feng has been a soloist with the Colburn Orchestra, Sarasota Music Festival, and Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra. Honors include a 2017 Award of Excellence from the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the 2016 Young Musicians Foundation David Weiss Memorial Scholarship and 1st place in the 2012 Vancouver Academy of Music Concerto Competition. As a chamber musician, Michelle has performed with artists including Whitney Crockett and Burt Hara of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among other prominent musicians throughout the United States and Canada. Michelle is a graduate of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where she studied with Allan Vogel. If you are looking for a teacher or performer, please feel free to send me an email.

How I got started playing my instrument

I actually almost became a clarinetist! I first wanted to play clarinet in grade 6 band, but so many kids were choosing clarinet and I wanted to be unique. I liked the sound of the oboe so I chose that instead.
