The mission of the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra is:

  • To present the highest-quality performances of great music, bringing national and international distinction to the orchestra and its community;

  • To delight and educate audiences of all ages and backgrounds, and enhance the cultural vitality and quality of life in these islands; and

  • To operate in a financially sound manner.

But this is only the beginning – the foundation of what the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra aspires to be. The Hawaii Symphony Orchestra must be Hawaii’s symphony orchestra, bringing wonderful music not only to those who have always enjoyed live orchestral music, but also to the many people, young and old, of every ethnic background in our state’s uniquely rich patchwork of cultures.

We are not only inspired by the great symphonies, concertos and other compositions that have brought audiences to their feet, clapping and cheering, for hundreds of years, we are convinced that the audience for live performances of the classical masterworks in Hawaii will continue to grow. Our purpose is to bring that joy to the widest possible audience in Hawaii.
